This was my first week with an adjusted training plan, starting 80/20 running and returning to longer strength training sessions, the week started off strong. Overall things went well, though of course there is always an opportunity to do better.
What Happened?
The week started off as planned right up until Friday. Friday morning, the pool was full so I ended up resting instead of swimming. Friday night, we went out to dinner and I wasn’t feeling up to my strength training. Saturday I did get out, but it was later than planned so I ended up doing the originally planned 80/20 run rather than the 5k I was hoping to pivot too. The weekend was busy with a barbeque, air show and concert so I planned a lighter weekend. I did use up most of my points, but I stayed within them.
What Worked?
The longer strength training worked out well. I also successfully tried some new workouts at EoS and moved some workouts to EoS to allow for a better fit and more strength. The runs in the 80/20 program are slow, but this is my first serious attempt to manage different paces and since the weather is heating up, I’d rather play it safe.
What Didn’t?
Push days are a challenge for me, I know these are good exercises, but they tend to make me feel sore than the others. This was the strength training I missed this week, even though I know it’s important.
Getting steps on Wednesday was tough since it was a rest day. This would be a good opportunity to get out for at least a walk, maybe getting the dog out as well.
What am I going to do about it?
I would like to get some more distance running in before Pat’s Run on April 11. I didn’t do the 5k this weekend, but I will try again next weekend.
I want to make sure I don’t miss the push workouts this week and will try to make up last week’s today.
This coming weekend, I’m excited to try a cycling climb at South Mountain to get a baseline of where I’m at with serious hill climbing.
What do the numbers say?
I did lose weight again this week to a new low, which is great to see. I am hoping I can keep a more consistent downward trend, even if they’re smaller steps. Last summer I felt very successful though winter seems like it would be better for me with more opportunities for endurance events. I am ready to get back on that train.
Summary
Overall a good week considering how busy it was. March in general has been a busy month and overall I still feel like I’m successful and trending the correct direction.
