Weekly Review: The Power of the Pivot

This week was a reminder that progress doesn’t require perfection it requires adaptability. Heading into vacation, I stayed consistent, made a few smart pivots, and focused on doing what I could instead of stressing about what I couldn’t. The result? Another strong step forward, both physically and mentally.

What Happened?

I had a strong week leading into vacation. I didn’t feel up to going to the gym Friday night, but instead of forcing it, I listened to that and showed up Saturday morning before we left town. That decision paid off. Once we made it up north, I kept the momentum going with a solid run around the RV park to kick things off the right way.

What Worked?

My overall weekly plan continues to work well. It gives me structure, but more importantly, flexibility. I anticipated Monday being busy, so I adjusted getting a run in early (something I can easily do from home) and pushing my swim to Wednesday morning before my work-from-home  and typical rest day. That ability to pivot without losing momentum is becoming one of the biggest drivers of consistency for me.

What Didn’t?

Honestly, not much to complain about this week. If anything, I didn’t fully stick to my plan of incorporating resistance bands while on vacation but I’m staying active enough that I’m confident I’m maintaining my fitness. Nutrition has also been looser than planned, but that’s part of the deal. This trip is about enjoying the time, relaxing, and recharging. There’s a time to push, and a time to reset.

What am I going to do about it?
I’m going to stay active, keep things simple, and not beat myself up over food choices. This is a planned break, not a setback. I’ll continue mixing in movement where I can, runs, walking, bodyweight work like squats and wall sits to keep building mobility and strength for things like dumbbell squats. The goal isn’t to maximize, it’s to maintain and stay engaged.

What do the numbers say?

I weighed in a couple of days early before leaving for vacation, but the results still speak for themselves. I dropped 5.6 lbs this week, pushing me under another milestone—320 lbs. That’s a goal I was hoping to hit before the trip, and after a rough start earlier in the week, it didn’t feel likely. But consistency won out.

That brings me to 90 lbs lost overall, and 60 lbs on this current push that started last summer. Momentum is real and it’s building.Summary
This week reinforced an important lesson: success isn’t about rigid execution, it’s about staying consistent through real life. Plans will shift. Energy will fluctuate. But progress comes from continuing to show up, adjust, and move forward anyway. Vacation isn’t a pause on progress, it’s just a different version of it, a deload week for the brain.
